(More customer reviews)I didn't buy mine from Amazon. I got it from woot.com, where it was only 9.99. I'd read soe reviews that criticized the audio quality, but that didn't bother me. I use mine primarily for spoken-word recordings like audiobooks and podcasts, not classical music. And when it works, the audio quality has been adequate to my needs.
But my first unit failed just 58 days after I bought it. Philips sent me a new one. Today, seven months later, that one failed, too.
(The unit does have a fuse, but I checked, and it's intact.)
Mine has been treated quite gently--I almost never touched it at all, except to plug and unplug my iPod. This is supposed to be a "marine" model for use on a boat, but I just use it in my car.
I will say that Philips service was good--after I faxed them my receipt, they sent a new model without requiring me to return the old one.
But given that I've now had to fail in such a short period of time, I wish I'd spent more money and just bought a better model.
Tomorrow I'll call Philips, and (I hope) arrange for them to send me a new one. But I'll also start shopping for a different model that's not so fragile.
