Soundcast ACT-211 AudioCast Wireless Transmitter for PC, Mac, or MP3 Players Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I was looking for a solution to stream audio from my computer in one corner of the house to multiple locations elsewhere in the house. I tried several attempts using my 802.11g network, but it always ended in frustration - could NOT get streaming to work consistently if at all. Then I took a chance on these devices, and I am extremely pleased. Use the audio out from your PC, and have a powered receiver + speakers on the other end of the wireless link. They are ultra portable (not battery powered FYI), lightweight, and there's no configuration - the receiver and transmitter just find each other and start talking. It's great.
I haven't had any interference problems when using these. And the signal is definitely more robust than my Linksys 11g router provides.
I'm thinking about getting a third receiver, even though the instructions say you can only use two receivers per transmitter for some reason. If not, a y-cable and a second receiver, and I'm in business.

Turn your PC into a wireless music server or listen to your MP3 player outloud with the ACT-211 AudioCast transmitter. Designed to serve as a bridge betweenyour preferred audio device and your home stereo system, the AudioCast incorporates2.4 GHz Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology to ensure a clean, crisp sound. Setup is simple: Just plug the transmitter and ACR-212 receiver (soldseparately) into nearby wall outlets, run a cable between the AudioCast transmitter andthe headphone jack of your computer or MP3 player, and connect the receiver to yourhome stereo. Within seconds, you'll have complete audible access to all your recordedmusic files, with no long wires to unroll or programming to master. Even better, you canconnect two receivers to each AudioCast transmitter, letting you create two distinctmusic zones in your home. And for people with particularly large homes, it's evenpossible to run a single audio signal through two AudioCast transmitters at the sametime, in effect turning your home into a four-zone system.
The real star of the AudioCast system, however, is the wireless FHSS technology. Foryears, wireless solutions have been plagued with outside interference from otherproducts using the crowded 2.4 GHz band. The Soundcast engineering team, bycontrast, refined the AudioCast's wireless technology to the point where neither themicrowave nor the cordless phone will affect the quality of the listening experience. Nobuzzes, no dropouts, and no distortion--just pure, clean sound.
Other details include a full wireless line-of-sight range of 350 feet (150 feet throughwalls and doors), support for PCs and Macs (including the iTunes audio format), and asleek white housing. The AudioCast transmitter measures 6.8 by 2 by 3.5 inches (W x Hx D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box Audiocast transmitter, AC/DC adapter, 3.5 mm mini-to-mini cable, 3.5 mm mini-to-RCAcable, user's manual.
