Delphi XM Roady XT Satellite Radio Receiver Review

Delphi XM Roady XT Satellite Radio Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Roady XT has made some major improvements over the Roady2. First and foremost, artist names and song titles will now scroll if they are longer than 16 characters. Each will scroll twice at the beginning of a song. If you need the complete name/title further into the piece, the best way to trigger the scroll again is to to hit the "display" button five times. This takes you back to the same display mode you were using, and it will begin to scroll again within a few seconds.
The sports ticker is great also. I was able to set it up for every NFL team, so there doesn't appear to be any limit on its size. It's not instantaneous, however; it takes about 2-3 minutes for an actual change in the score to be reflected in the ticker.
There is also a "Jump" button which allows you to flip to the previous channel.
The "Tuneselect" feature now allows you to search for songs not only by the song title, but by the artist name as well. This is accessed through the menu screen. You do, however, have to pick one or the other.
Another big plus: The Roady XT now gives you access to virtually the entire FM spectrum (88.1-107.9) if you want to listen via the FM modulator. The "Jump" button also comes into play here as well. If you hold it in for a few seconds, it will bring up a screen showing the last 6 FM frequencies you used. You can then use the arrow buttons to go to the one you want, then hit "Select." And by setting your in-dash radio's presets to the corresponding FM frequencies, it makes it much easier to adjust the modulator if you start running into interference as you drive.
Tip: The XM antenna also serves as the FM transmitter. If possible, place it close to your regular car antenna.

The smallest and lightest XM satellite radio on the market, the Delphi XM Roady XT comes with everything you need to enjoy more than 150 commercial-free satellite channels in your car while you're driving across town or across the country. The plug-and-play Roady XT is easy to install, with no wires or cables required. Simply dock it on your dash, whereit uses its built-in FM transmitter to wirelessly transmit the signal to an empty frequency on your FM dial. The device supports more than 100 frequencies, so even users in the busiest radio markets should be able to find several static-free channels.Once installed, listeners will have access to the full XM menu of music, sports, talk, news, children's, and entertainment programming, all without having to listen to a single commercial. The Roady XT also offers 21 advanced traffic and weather channels--yet another reason XM was named best radio service at the 2004 Billboard Digital Entertainment Awards.
To make the listening experience more informative, the Roady XT displays the channel name, artist name, and song title for each XM channel on the bright, high-contrast screen, which boasts seven vivid backlighting colors. Complementing the track info is the TuneSelect feature, which alerts listeners when their favorite songs and artists are playing on a specific channel. Meanwhile, sports and finance fans will delight in the customizable sports and stock tickers; the former runs through the latest scores and schedules for both college and the pros, while the latter keeps track of up to 20 stocks at once.
All the features come bundled in a sleek, innovative housing that's designed to ensure high sound quality while taking up a minimum of space. The diminutive size (it measures a mere 3.7 by 2.2 by 0.61 inches) fits easily in most jacket pockets or purses. This not only helps protect against theft, but also makes it convenient to bring the Roady XT inside for home use (requires the Roady XT home kit).
So don't waste another moment listening to cliché-ridden commercial radio--join the XM revolution today with the Roady XT.

Sony STR-DH800 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (Black) Review

Sony STR-DH800 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know just enough about Audio to be dangerous but I'm not a true audiophile (or whatever they're called). So I don't know how an average person would figure this out when it took me an hour and a half on the phone with Sony support before THEY figured it out.
Now this is my second Sony receiver and I purchased this one specifically to go along with my brand new Sony BDP-S360 Blu Ray player. I used brand new HDMI category 2 cables into the receiver and then out to my Sony HDTV. This is suppossed to be the BEST way to get true no-loss sound decoding and picture. Well I was shocked when my receiver was NOT decoding DTS audio. All Dolby Digital tracks were playing in perfect 5.1 surround sound...the DTS tracks played back in Linear PCM stereo. So after I read the manuals, updated the firmware and set everything right then trying a few DVDs and Blu Ray discs I contacted Sony Support via email. Several exchanges later they asked me to call in to better troubleshoot my issue. First I talked to the blu ray guy (since I wasn't sure which device was causing the issue) and after resetting the player and checking all the setting I was transfered to the Audio department. Once again we reset the machine to factory setting, checked all the set ups and still nothing changed (Did I mention that I had to unhook and reconnect several cables and I even had an optical cable running to my old Sony Reciever?). Then 1 1/2 hours into the phone call he asked if I was getting audio through the TV speakers which I was and he said "oh its set to TV + Amp". So we changed that setting to just "Amp" and bingo...DTS surround sound!! I said "but that's the factory default setting". He told me where the info was in the manual but I checked an NOWHERE in the manual does it say that when using the receiver as a passthrough via HDMI inorder to decode a DTS signal the receiver must be set to "Amp" only and not the default setting of "TV + Amp". What the...??
So now the receiver works great even decoding the new DTS-HD Master Audio off my "Watchmen" Blu Ray disc. But be warned that if you use the HDMI inputs to decode your surround sound be sure to change the system to "Amp" instead of the default "TV + Amp" unless you enjoy stereo sound from your suround sound system. This may be the case for other Sony receivers so be aware when buying that factory default setting may not allow for optimum performance and the Sony guys might not be aware of this little fact if you call them.

CTA Digital IP-AST Wireless Air Sound Transmitter Review

CTA Digital IP-AST Wireless Air Sound Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been looking for a wireless transmitter to play music and various sounds from my laptop through either my Mackie monitors in my room, or the sound system in the living room.
Oddly enough, there isn't much out there that meets this rather simple requirement. Most products seem to require you to only play sounds from certain software (such as iTunes, or MusicMatch). A device that plugs into your soundcard is unusually rare, unless you went for an FM transmitter which I've had bad experiences with in the past (although, I've only ever tried cheap ones).
I almost went for the Logitech solution, but the vendor software and reports of incompatibility worried me, although I liked the idea of the USB connection over a stereo jack link to my soundcard headphone socket.
I took a chance on this little gizmo from CTA and was really surprised. Information on the web about this item seems almost non-existant which made me more wary, but it had the exact features I wanted and was cheap enough to give it a shot, but expensive enough to make me think it might actually work.
Even when it came, the rather blurred font labelling the ports increased my skeptiscm. My mood was lifted to find that everything you need, including cables to get it working was included.
The receiver, is a very small aluminium box with a dainty little arial as pictured. It connects to a rather discrete lump-in-a-cord-design power pack. A mini 3.5mm stereo jack is the output which connects to your amp, or powered speakers. It has a blue LED that tells you when a connection to a the transmitter has been found. (a note, there are 16 channels which you can select from to avoid interference, although I didn't need to despite the 50 or so wireless networks in my apartment block).
The transmitter looks exactly the same, except in addition to a 3.5mm stereo jack it has a type B USB port which I wasn't expecting. Essentially what you have when you connect this is an external sound card connected via USB which should result in better sound quality than connecting it via an analog cable (a cheap analog cable if you use the one provided).
Despite the advantages of a USB connection, I would rather keep it simple and get the thing working before I tried that. So, I went for the 3.5mm stereo jack (this config requires the transmitter be also plugged into a power pack, not something I liked, but I guess long term it's better than batteries).
Amazing!! Music was coming from my montiors!! Not just any music. Good fidelity music with a fairly low noise floor!! I was amazed. This thing works, and it works rather well. It certainly wasn't as good as a good quality cable, but for a wireless device it was pretty good considering how terrible FM transmitters are. The only annoying thing was it seemed to attenuate the signal quite a lot, but not so much I ran out of headroom.
I decided to try the USB cable. PnP it says in the manual. I was skeptical again...what no driver disk to try when Windows inevitably can't find my device??
Damn. It was right! XP recognised the device as a sound card almost instantly and I started streaming music again to my speakers. It was so easy this thing could have been made by Apple.
The attenuation problem disappeared so dramatically I was reaching for the volume control in a hurry! The quality also seemed much better also. Figures, since the cables that ship with the device are probably pretty terrible. But I feel that the problem is actually the device encoding the analog signal into a digital format which it sends via the 2.4GHz transmitter which the receiver then has to turn back to analog again. I'm not sure what magic exactly happens in the transmitter, but there is still some quality loss somewhere in the chain even using USB, but only noticible if you really listen for it (in my case I could only hear the slight noise when there was no music being sent from my laptop).
The slight hissing problem was also pretty much fixed by playing with the arials. I have a feeling my wireless network (802.11g) was interferring with the signal since they use the same frequency band.
Overall, I give this 5 stars. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and it does it well. A better hi-fi version would be nice, but at this price that seems most unfair to ask for. I have a feeling if my stereo had fairly standard speakers there would be no noticiable difference in fidelity at all. Considering I have pretty good quality studio monitors and can still use this without resorting back to my trusty cable is pretty darn impressive.
Why there aren't more products on the market that do what this does really suprises me. Everything seems geared around playing media files etc, but nothing that just plays what you hear on your computer through a remote sound source.
As you can probably tell, I'm really happy with this product.

I've been looking for bluetooth headphones for the gym, but haven't been able to find any 1 headphone that worked well/fit good/sweat resistant/durable. I stumbled upon this Sony BT receiver that let's you use cheaper earphones while allowing me to protect the electronics. So far it works great with very strong reception and ease of use. The only downside is the lack of song skipping on the iphone, but this is Apple's problem, not Sony's. Make sure you buy this BT30 with a USB cable that lets you use your iphone charger instead of the older BT15, which must be charged using Sony's dock and AC adapter.

Sennheiser Wireless EW 100ENG G2 Microphone System Review

Sennheiser Wireless EW 100ENG G2 Microphone System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a television producer/director using two Panasonic HVX200's at 24P and this Sennheiser wireless microhone. Thus far, we've shot 5 indoor/outdoor shows for two series with the microphone and I must say it's quite impressive. I'm not an audio expert but I know when something's working well. What's amazing to me is that these units use only two 1.5 volt AA batteries each AND the batteries generally last an entire 12 hour day! I have a 9V battery based Samson wireless microphone system that's downright voltage thirsty by comparison. (I have to replace the Samson batteries every couple of hours.) The sound quality of the Sennheiser is consistently excellent at various ranges with only an occasional audio hit or dropout. The main tme we've experienced the hits are when our subject is further away; say 75 feet or so. On those occasions, we've remedied the problem by either switching frequencies or by positioning the transmitter or receiver on a more direct line-of-sight orientation.
The construction of the mic and receiver are solid, top drawer all the way. I have NOT read the thick instruction manual, nor do I intend to. My cameraman knows enough to be able to change frequencies when need be, so that's fine by me.
So, in summary, this is an excellent microphone system. It works equally well indoors or out. The quality of the sound we've recorded with it is exceptional. Don't hesitate to make this your primary wireless microphone purchase.

MartinLogan Dynamo 700 10-inch Wireless Ready Subwoofer (Single, Black) Review

So I just bought a new setup that consists of a Marantz SR6003, Vienna Acoustic Weber R,L,C channel and Audio Monitor gold series in ceiling speakers for surround. Plus the dynamo 700.
The ML700 was easy to set up and was precise and hard hitting from the start even before break in. I had a little trouble with the wireless transmitter due to the fact that I have an Apple Airport express that sends music wirelesly from my computer to my reciever and the apple and ML transmitter seemed to interfer with each other. ( I was getting popping noises out of my ML. But after I moved the ML transmitter farther away the went away. I consider myself an audiophile and have been very happy with the setup of the ML and my viennas together.
Only had the ML for about 3 weeks. If anything should change I will report back.

Yamaha YID-W10 Wireless iPod Dock (Black) Review

Yamaha YID-W10 Wireless iPod Dock (Black)

I bought this product cause I love to have my iphone in my hand while sitting on the couch or at the dining table and being able to switch songs frequently without having to get up. It's also nice to be able to control your receiver volume by using the side buttons on your iPhone.
However, you should be aware of a couple drawbacks of this product:
- This dock does not allow you to display song title and album artwork on your TV screen. If you want this feature, you'll need to go with the non-wireless dock YDS-11SL. Also you cannot send iTunes videos to the TV like you can with the YDS-11SL.
However, this product has a video synchronization feature that works well - basically this allows you to play itunes video content or youtube videos on your iPhone screen (while holding your iphone in your hand) while the audio wirelessly comes through your receiver speakers. The device does a perfect job of syncing up the audio with the video (but remember the video will only be on your tiny iphone screen rather than up on the TV).
- I bought this product because I wanted a wireless solution for my iPhone music and yAired technology was supposed to be hands-down better sound quality than a bluetooth connection. I still think it's better than bluetooth, but I was a little disappointed because the audio occasionally breaks in and out with yAired. The audio breaks are rare - It usually happens when you first start playing music (maybe connection takes a while to solidify) or if you're moving around the house with the iphone in your hand. Note that it does play perfectly everytime when you have the iphone sitting in the dock.
Overall I still like the wireless feature, but was a little disappointed with yAired connection quality.

I recently received my new A/V transmitter and receiver yesterday. They look very nice....well built. There was NO POWER SUPPLY with the units, only two power supply cords with bare wire on the ends. I am now going to have to buy two 12 volt dc power supplies before I can even test the units out. I wish they had told me so that I could have ordered them at the same time.

Sony EZWT100 S-AIR Signal Transmitter - Black Review

Sony EZWT100 S-AIR Signal Transmitter - Black
Average Reviews:

Installed this into my STR-DN1000 and tried to link it with a brand new AIR-SA10 and they would just not recognize each other. The wireless strength was zero and the main unit would not pair with the sub. After 30 mins on live chat with Sony they suggested that I unplug the receiver for a minute and try again. Amazingly that worked and the SA10 immediately linked with the receiver without pairing. The install instructions do say to unplug the receiver before installing this transmitter. That is a major deal for me with the way my components are installed into my built-ins, however, it turned out to be the critical missing piece of the puzzle. The instructions don't say 'if you don't do this you will have hours of frustration' so I am writing that here to try to save others from injuring their heads on their walls.
.
Now that it's working, the total investment for the transmitter and the SA10 seems like a good deal when compared to other wireless speakers available at this time, plus the SA10 allows you to switch between whatever feeds are available on your main unit without walking back to the main unit to change it.
