(More customer reviews)This wireless lapel microphone, transmitter, and receiver works well for close quarters shooting. The 9 volt batteries can last up to 8 hours.
The sound quality of this mic is very good. But there are some issues. The RF signal is weak and I have experienced interference issues when the transmitter was covered by a suit jacket with the subject located fifteen to twenty feet away from the transmitter while other RF devices are present in the immediate vicinity. So Far I have documented four events with this set and I have experienced white noise and interefernce at two of those events. I did not experience sonic interference the entire time but once in a while a bit of static would build up and then fade away over 20 to 60 seconds of time. This seemed to depend on the movement of the subject wearing the transmitter crossing the path of other RF (radio frequency) transmitting devices. For that reason I have decided to purchase a higher end unit for Business and Wedding video shoots. I am still going to use this mic for studio interviews and on location shooting where my subject will never be more then 10 feet away when I have the luxury time to work out any interference issues.
All in all, I do like this wireless mic set because it is easy to work with and fills a a particular niche for beginning Videographers. The Pro-88 came with a few extra things that helped. These include; a single ear bud that allows the camera operator to monitor the audio signal as its being recorded, two detachable belt clips for the transmitter and the receiver, a camera shoe mounting bracket for the transmitter if you would rather attach it to the camera, four strips of Velcro, and two strips of soft foam for resting the transmitter on an inclined surface.
I recommend this wireless lapel microphone system for small budget projects and as a possible back up for small events and venues. However I would suggest saving up and buying a pro series of wireless lav mics for weddings and corporate events.

I chose it because it was a 900 MHz system rather than the 100 MHz systems from Hysonic, etc. The included lapel mike is not very good. Lots of distortion and very cheaply made. I tried a better quality Radio Shack lapel mike, #33-3013 and got much better results. Compared to putting the mike right into the camcorder, the wireless transmitter shows considerably more noise and lower sound level. No noticeable difference in frequency response, at least for voice recording. Dropouts started occuring when I was about 50 feet away. Bottom line is this isn't broadcast quality but certainly adequate for amateur use.

(More customer reviews)Great value. High performance at a mid level price. Easy to set up (IF you read the instructions) and the auto frequency select is a great thing. Good sounding mic for spoken word or vocals. I especially like the fact that it uses 2 AA batteries instead of 9V batteries. Good battery life, good range of transmission and VERY expandable. (NOTE: IF you are adding a second one or adding one of these to a system that already has wireless mics, make sure that ALL your wireless devices are ON when you do the auto frequency select)
Also if possible use the balanced XLR out to avoid noise and for a better sound. I also like the power supply not using a 'wall wart' and putting the transformer in the middle of the power cable.
Con: It is possible to over tighten the battery cover and break it. Don't crank it on like Godzilla and it will be fine.

(More customer reviews)This microphone does the job!....great sound, easy to set up, and haven't had a single problem with it! I certainly don't get any "extra noises" from this microphone as I ever did with a wired microphone! It doesn't pick up every single "puhhhh," "sssssss," or "plunk" when touched or tapped. I'm very happy with it....Only thing though, I recommend getting rechargable batteries...as you'll need to have an extra pair or two if playing long shows as do I....usually 4 hours plus. Most batteries and brands last a good 4-7 hours....but sometimes it just seems that some brands don't last as long as the others...cheaper in the end to just buy the rechargable ones....it doesn't take long...and they last a good while!
Thanks Shure for making such a wonderful microphone!!! Will certainly stay with company forever!

For those purposes and perhaps making some simple presentations - its perfect! I never get any feedback and having the carrying case helps out soooooooooo much! I use to lug around my old wireless mic and it got beaten up to where I had to buy a new one. This one had a good price and came with a convenient plastic carrying case which helps protect it and keeps things organized. GREAT PRODUCT!!

Although this is the g3, i assume the characteristics between the G2 and G3 preformance wise are good and most likely better than the previous model. I have owned my G2 for two years now and its still going strong. It is used at my church 3 times a week for singing and spoken word, for probably a total of 12 hours per week. The battery life is outstanding. I use NMH rechargeable AA's in it and they work just fine in the system. This microphone locks in the frequency and never lets it go! I never get any static. The sound quality of this microphone is just outstanding. Great feedback rejection from monitors at high levels (yes... :)High live monitor levels even in a church). Spend the money and get yourself a wireless microphone you wont regret!

If you are looking for a good and portable mic for a tide budget this one is definitely it!!

(More customer reviews)I've had this set of mics for about one year now. I must disclose an amazing fact: there is absolutely no feedback no matter how close you stand to any of the speakers! I have 7 speakers around an area where I use this set of mics. I use them for Karaoke parties. Any one can have a mic standing right next to any of the 7 speakers and there is absolutely no feedback at all sound and mic levels. The Shure does know how to capture voice. This set of mic is very sensitive while not very draining on batteries. On another note, I did purchased a set of rechargable batteries from Amazon.com (You can serach my review to find it). I had generic brand, Panasonic, Sony, and few other types of mics before. None of them can come even close to the performance of this set of Shures! For the Amazon.com price, I highly recommend this product. I've been a very happy customer :)

(More customer reviews)I tried this indoors in computer lab. every few minutes it would emit a loud spray of distortion. When I walked around, it would distort much like an old TV with rabbit ears and a weak signal. Everytime I move in the wrong direction it would hiss and distort. Which way was the wrong way? Seems like everyway was wrong. I tried it a few feet away, 10 feet away, 15 feet away. I tried it to the left, right and middle of the room. With the lights on, off. With computers on, off. Everything on, everything off. It's like a cellphone with 1 bar of reception, any movement at all out of the sweet spot would make this thing pop, hiss, distort, cut-out. And there was only a small sweetspot if I stood exactly there, then it would work for a few minutes until the unit built up enough static, then it would discharge into a loud pop. This thing is now in the junk pile with other other useless discarded electronics.

(More customer reviews)I'm an instructor who is teaching an intensive course this summer. 4 hours of lectures each day for one month. As luck would have it I developed a cold and a nasty cough 1 week before this course started. Typically in this situation I will lose my voice after just 2 long lecture days. This course lasted a month, so I HAD to resort to using a microphone.
I started by using the college's VHF based PA system, which gave horrible interference and feedback. I then took this PA system and plugged it into our lecture kiosk computer using a 3.5mm which feeds the output into the overhead speakers. Because the system was VHF, there was a loud static noise if I walked too far from the system, and there was interference from the PA speaker from cell phones.
I decided to buy this UHF system on amazon. UHF operates at higher frequencies than VHF (by about 30 fold higher frequency.) This means the radio signal has a smaller wavelength, and just like FM, can get around corners and objects much better than VHF. The signal is also of higher energy (but doesn't drain batteries that fast since this system is fairly low output).
I received the system. The system comes with a double male ended 1/4" headphone cable (the large type). One leads from the system and then I plugged the other into a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter that then plugged into the back of the kiosk computer (all computers should have a 3.5mm input to receive this), which would then output the incoming signal to the speakers (as I had before w/the VHF system).
It works perfectly. There is no interference, no static noise standing anywhere in a giant lecture hall. There are 60 students all with cell phones, laptops, and other technology devices going at once, and none give interference with this microphone.
It is cheap, and does everything I want it to do, and it has saved my voice. This is the system you want.
My only complaint is one of the wireless microphones does give a staticy noise if I move around the wire. It is as if the wire is loose or frayed. I'm sure I could fix it but I just use the other one.

(More customer reviews)I have used at least a dozen wireless lapel microphones at different speaking engagements I've made across the country. Many of them have had frequency interference problems or sensitivity issues, as well as a few other problems. I eventually did a considerable amount of research, and purchased my own. I tried to strike a balance between cost effectiveness and quality, eventually settling on the Audio-Technica 700 Series Unipak Frequency-agile Diversity Uhf Wireless Systems microphone. I've used it once since I purchased it, and was very satisfied with the results it gave me. There were no frequency interference problems, the sound had exceptional clarity, and I didn't notice a drop in volume when I turned my head to signal to the presentation screen behind me. A particular lady with moderate to severe hearing impairment said she could hear very well. No adverse issues yet. Overall, a great value.

(More customer reviews)I'm a bit surprised at the reviewer who gave only three stars to this system and said in his title: "I haven't used this system." How can anyone rate it without using it?
I've used this system for years and have gotten great sound. I've also used higher-priced wireless systems, and to my ear, there is no difference. Also, this cheap little Azden system is still going strong after some of the other brands bit the dust.
I don't think wireless lav systems can get the great audio you get with a shotgun mic, a boom, and a sound person, but those things are just not in my budget.

(More customer reviews)This is my first wireless mic. After some research I decided to go with this mostly due to it's price. To my surprise, not only the craftsmenship on this was great, but the sound is excellent too. I mostly do interviews and close range dialog shoots. It's great for the occasion.
You might need to play around with the antennas to get the sound clear but once it's done there's no prob. Can't say much on it's long distance performance but for my use it's great.
You can plug in any kind of mic with a mini plug on the transimitter. This way you can turn any mic into a wireless mic.
There are two outputs on the reciever. One for mic output to be used for connecting to your mixer,camera etc. And an additional output for monitoring sound through a headphone (small earpice headphone comes with the kit) or to be used as a line level output for non powered devices.
If you need more range and have high possibility of interference go for a UHF mic. But for regular interviews and on site shooting this is up to the job.
