(More customer reviews)I have had this item for 2 years, and i have driven in a car from Colorado to Florida with it. Rarely having to change the station. From Mississippi to florida i did not have to change the tuner ONE single time.
The sound is good, you turn the sound on the device to about half way and adjust your car volume. It has been used with an OLD MP3 player, IPOD nano, and a Sony Walkman.
I really like this thing and i am considering purchasing another one for myself since this one belongs to my daughter and came in a bundle package!
NO its not the best, but i have learned in my life that more money for a product does not always guarantee a BETTER product. Just means you paid more for the same thing.
It works for me, depending on what you want from you item, it would most likely work for you.

Kensington Universal FM Transmitter for MP3 Players (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I have had this Kensington FM transmitter for about 2 months and in my hands it has very acceptable sound and not alot of static.
Unfortunately it has one fatal design flaw that makes listening to classical, jazz and any other type of music with any quiet passages VERY FRUSTRATING. During the quiet parts the unit will shut itself off causing my car audio to emit a ear piercing screech when it loses the signal. I haven't measured it but it seems like as little a 10-15 seconds of quiet causes this behavior.
This makes this unit useless for classical music and quite a bit of jazz and other similar styles. If you listen to quiet music, avoid at all costs. If you don't it is the best transmitter I have tried.

(More customer reviews)I live in Los Angeles; there's either a Mexican or Jazz station on every frequency! I tried the cassette-MP3 adapter (which I'd prefer if I didn't have that dreaded auto-reverse feature) and had to return it.
While this product only has 4 channels, they each worked for me with varying success. It's not CD quality, which is obvious when I play my classical music and when my son rocks out to songs with deep bass.
If you're ok with decent sound quality and can't use the cassette adapter, I'd say this product should work great for you.

The longer version ends up with the people at Accessory Genie emailing me "Learn to accept responsibility for your actions and quite blaming others. It may hurt to do so, but one has to look in the mirror at himself and look at his shortcomings and deal with them. " I wanted to listen to my MP3 player in the car and instead I got a life lesson. I bought the iRock to go with my 40GB iPod. Overall, I'm quite happy with it. Here are the plusses:
*easy to use/install
*small (takes up only a little space)
*coiled power cord (helps!)
*uses very little power (with the batteries)
*reception is quite good on all 4 settings in a medium/large metro area (Twin Cities, Minnesota) with a lot of radio stations
Here's the minus: I was disappointed in the clarity of sound produced by the iRock. I don't know if the decreased clarity is due to the iRock or my car stereo (an Alpine in my Honda CRV), but the sound produced by the iRock simply isn't as good as the sound I get listening to the iPod with a cheap pair of headphones. If the clarity was a bit better I'd probably give the product 4 to 5 stars.
[I have discovered that I can improve the clarity of sound if I keep the volume on my iPod low and use the car stereo to adjust the volume. The clarity is 'fine,' but isn't great.]

SanDisk Sansa e100 FM Transmitter Review

(More customer reviews)I have read a lot of negative reviews about FM car transmitters for MP3 players. I was especially hesitant to buy one from Sandisk because it is not really a well-known MP3 player like iPod, Creative Labs, etc. In the end, I figured it would be worth it because although the Sandisk e140 may not have certain features or size capabilities as others, it was definately a quality product that is very well priced, so I figured the FM transmitter would follow suite. Thankfully, I was right. The FM transmitter is by far one of the best design I have seen. The adjustable neck allows me to set the Transmitter right next to my CD car stereo and tilt it to face me, which allows me to hit the next song button as easy as it is to reach the car stereo. Other products I have seen are limp, or just wires that you have to rest on the center console, or passanger seat. The only downside to this is that although the MP3 player remains powered by the car its indigo light goes off after about a minute so I am unable to see the display. Not really a negative towards the transmitter, but of the MP3 player.
A key element I have read about faulty, or glitched FM tranmitters for MP3 players is that static can be heard in the background no matter how much you turn up the volume, and sound quality is very poor. Regarding the Sandisk, these are not issues at all. There are 3 presets so you dont have to find the good stations every time you use it. In addition, the sound quality is great, perhaps even better than the car stereo sound settings presently depending on the quality of your car stereo. The sound setting can be adjusted on your MP3 player to make the sound quality even more precise than the car stereo's.
Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone who has thought to buy an FM transmitter for their Sansa and avoided it because of other mainstream MP3 brands tainting opinions.
--One last note. I am in Chicago so I dont know if that is a cause for such good empty FM signals for the MP3 transmitter to pick up on.--

(More customer reviews)The Belkin Tunecast is basically a small radio transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack of your iPod. The Tunecast transmits the music from your iPod to one of four selectable frequencies, which you can then listen to by simply tuning your home or car stereo to said frequency.
The most obvious advantage of this little device is the ability to use it anywhere there's a radio. Say you wanted to play your songs on your friend's stereo, or in your friend's car, or on a boombox at the beach: it's practically effortless with the Tunecast. And it's cheap, to boot.
Of course, what you gain in ease of use compared to, say, a direct line into your home or car stereo, you lose in sound quality. The sound is basically FM radio-quailty, with a noticible hiss in the background. Now, it's still more than listenable, and most of the time the music drowns out the hiss, but audiophiles in search of crystal-clear sound quality should look elsewhere (although they probably already know that).
Overall, I would recommend it simply because of its low price and versatility.

Maxell FMT-1 - FM transmitter Review

The trade off is it's price is much lower than most other FM transmitter you find in the iPod section of most retail stores. In fact, I actually found this product in the portable CD player isle (remember those?) of Best Buy
Pros:
-Nice price for those that don't mind the lack of bells and whistles.
-Range is good enough that your car should pick up the signal from anywhere in the car.
-Auto-shut off feature when it's not transmitting a signal.
-Works for any mp3 player with a headphone jack.
-Has that that cool Maxell "guy in the chair" logo on the back (probably not a real big pro, I admit).Cons:
-Might be too bulky for some. I'll try to get pictures up later, but for you gum or tobacco chewers it's about the size of a Bubble Tape or Skoal's container (as round as a soda can and a little under an inch thick).
-Requires 3 AAA batteries, which will be more of a con the more you plan on using the device.
-The four frequencies are in the 88 MHz range (88.1 - 88.7), which will be a con if that part of the dial is busy in your area
-I have to crank my iPod to full volume and turn the radio volume up a little higher than normal to get a good sound (this can be compensated by using my iPod's EQ, which sacrifices some battery life).
Overall, if you're thinking about getting a FM transmitter, but not sure how much you'll actaully use it, this is a nice, cheap device to test the waters. If you think you're going to use your mp3 player exclusively while you're in your car, you'll probably want to invest in a higher grade device.

(More customer reviews)While this player does a fairly good job of transmitting the songs clearly to the FM radio, reading the display during the daylight is difficult to impossible. The remote has to be very close to the player to function. also the unit doesn't support folders so all MP3s have to be placed into a common folder which makes it harder to locate and play a specific song.
Otherwise it is an OK player and the sound quality is good. The signal is strong enough so that the radio doesn't overlay a lot of static during playback. If this player had a more easily read display and supported folders, it would be a great MP3/4 player.

(More customer reviews)I got this to go with my Dell DJ. Since I go between two cars for my commute, I wanted something that wasn't "nailed down". This seemed to fit the bill. And it does, but I find myself constantly adjusting the tuner to clean up the signal while driving. I start off and the signal is strong, but 10 miles down the road it starts to fade and needs tuning. I do live in the Baltimore Washington area, so there are a lot of radio stations chewing up the air waves. I think the battery power source limits this items broadcast strength. And when you are near a city, regular FM is going to overpower battery-powered FM everytime. Good item as long as you are in a rural area.

The product works, but only for about 5 minutes before it starts skipping parts of the song it happens to be playing. If it weren't for the skipping, this would be a decent product.
The other problem is that there is absolutely no support from the manufacturer. All of the emails I have sent regarding the skipping have gone unanswered.
Don't bother buying this product. Donate the money to charity instead. At least it will be used for a good cause that way.

(More customer reviews)I actually picked this up at target, because it was $10 cheaper than the rest of the universals I had seen at Radio Shack and Best Buy. I didn't try it on the one preset (106.7) that is one of the strong radio stations here (it has 6 at the low and 6 at the high and I tried all the lows), but of the ones that I did try, 2 stations are normally decently strong with a little static, and I had no problems with hearing my music when I plugged this in. No static or overlap at all. And no need to adjust the volume.
Edit - after traveling, I found that I did have to have the magnetic antenna very close to my car's antenna, which frustrated me some, since it worked so well while parked. But once I did that, no problems on signals. Would probably lower the star rating to 4 if I could at this point simply for that reason. But I'm not disappointed to have purchased this.
