THE PRODUCT - I was looking for a middle of the road iPod speaker because I wasn't interested in paying $200 for a BOSE iPod speaker. I wanted something small, simple and reasonably priced. THIS IS IT! Don't expect BOSE quality sound, but it is more than adequate for a desktop speaker in an office or to make your 1st gen iPod touch a great alarm clock (which it has inside it, but no built in external speakers to make it useful) Also, this dock is a great way to charge the touch, which does not come with a wall charging adapter.
THE CUSTOMER SERVICE - The only glitch in my experience was that the speaker/dock did not come with a universal iPod touch adapter. Your iPod will still attach to the speaker and work fine, and for the most part sit on the dock solidly. But the adapter makes it much more solid. I e-mailed Satechi and asked for an adapter. They CALLED me back, that's right CALLED me back, and offered to send one out free of charge. THAT'S an A+ in my book.

Rca Rc59I Clock Radio with Ipod Dock Review

Rca Rc59I Clock Radio with Ipod Dock

I saw this for sale at a local store, so I thought I would do some digging for information. Unfortunately, there is almost zero. It doesn't say it anywhere online or on the box, but this will indeed charge your iPhone 3G. It's possible that they did not want to pay for licensing. Since it will charge the 3G, it should charge all of the new non-firewire iPods (Nano 5G, etc).
It's nice and compact, but certainly sturdy. Once you take a leaf through the instruction manual, it's very easy to use. Not one of those things I recommend to start pushing buttons feet-first, because you'll probably be woken up at 2:30am by accident.
What else can I say about it? It charges my iPhone, plays pretty well (a 5.1 system this isn't), has an aux-in for a Zune, etc, has dual-alarms with 3-4 different options each. If you're looking for a cheap replacement for your firewire-charging alarm clock, this is a good choice.

Philips BTM630 Bluetooth Wireless Micro Hi-Fi System with iPod Docking Station Review

Philips BTM630 Bluetooth Wireless Micro Hi-Fi System with iPod Docking Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just got this the other day. Here are my thoughts:* Gadgetry
Okay, this thing has all the technology - It's got bluetooth connectivity, including the ability to play music from another device wireless and answer phone calls (built-in mic). It has an SD card slot, and a USB slot for other devices (haven't tried this out yet). It has an iPod dock. It'll even rip your CDs. I haven't seen anything on the market with this many options.
* Ease of Use (Interface)
This is where things start to go a bit off. It's not the easiest device to use. The display doesn't show the most relevant information. For example, if you're looking at it in bluetooth mode, it just keeps repeating the words "BLUETOOTH" in caps on the screen. But that's redundant because I already know that fact due to the big flashing blue light in the corner. Also, though this thing looks like a clock radio, it doesn't function very well as one (it rarely shows the time throughout the various functions - alarm is hard to set).
* Sound
It's fair - Not a whole lot of bass, mids are a little muddy, highs are very nice. Having said that, I don't have a comparable reference - I'm comparing it to my home stereo system and the bose wave radio.
* Quality / How's it Look
A good looking device - Definitely doesn't look cheap. It's got a big back end on it, but overall isn't too large. Fits on my nightstand just fine. The buttons are a little plasticky.
* In Summary
I'm going to continue using it - if only because there's no stereo out there that has this mix of features. I bought a bluetooth adapter for my ipod touch. It's very cool that I can be sitting anywhere in my bedroom and picking music. And if it runs short on batteries, I can drop it right into the ipod dock. But... I'm going to have to dig my 15-year-old clock radio out of the closet.

Soundcast ICO-411 Outcast (Grey) Review

Soundcast ICO-411 Outcast (Grey)

I was skeptical at spending this type of $$$ for speakers but I was looking for something I could use in multiple venues, wireless and had good sound quality. The Outcast out-performed my expectations and is worth every dollar. I justified spending the $$$ by realizing that I would not need to purchase an amplifier and install speakers in the Patio area or garage and just saving time in the install was reason enough. Plus, this system works flawlessly with my iPOD as I can goto the previous or next song from the unit at a distance of > 350'. The sound quality has remained constantly impressive even while I use this piece in my garage which is >100' away from the transmitter (Included). I have not tested the 350 avertised range but have not needed to go this far. Also, the battery life is excellent. I have not tested the 10 hour advertised rate, but have used the Outcast at a loud level poolside for ~7 hours without any fade to volume or sound quality. This product is the best on the market and should be at $700 but more importantly, these guys got it right when it comes to wireless quality.

Yamaha PDX-60GY Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone, 1 Each (Gray) Review

Yamaha PDX-60GY Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone, 1 Each (Gray)

This is the next generation of iPod sound docks! I own a Logitech and a Bose sound dock. They both have their good and bad points, but neither of them offers the capability of this product...namely, the ability to have complete control of all iPod functions, using the iPod itself, at a remote distance from the sound box. The remote controls on all other units serve mainly as volume controllers, with the user having to approach the sound box to see what's going on on the iPod's screen. And though this is obviously anecdotal, I would testify that the Yamaha's sound quality outstrips both my Bose Sound Dock II, which has the typical Bose "muffled," soft, basey, quality, and my Logitech PureFi II, which has very good crisp sound at low levels but rapidly loses quality as the volume goes up (and has other well-documented issues as well). The Yamaha appears to have a wide frequency range and the ability to hold the sound quality with increased volume. The Yamaha also offers you the option to plug your iPod directly into the sound box itself, as you do with other brands, and use the separate, included hand-held to control the functions if you prefer. All is not perfect. If I am not mistaken, the hand-held transmitter, which hold your iPod, is RF (radio frequency) operated, but responds in a line-of-site manner, akin to an infrared system. If you block the transmitter with an obstruction, even your own body, the sound will be disrupted. Still, this is a minor limitation, considering the complete control available. This was a gift purchase for my spouse, but it is so impressive I wouldn't be surprised to see one appearing for my own use in the future. Kudos Yamaha! (note that this product is only compatible with later generation iPod models which use USB connectors)

The Soundcast transmitters come bundled with their Outcast outdoor speaker and they work flawlessly. As I stated in my other review the sound quality is amazing for wireless (2.4Ghz) and I have not experienced any drop off in connection.

Play all your favorite iPod tunes out loud without running wires through thehouse with the help of the ICR-112 iCast wireless receiver. The receiver, which works inconjunction with the iCast docking transmitter (sold separately), incorporates 2.4 GHzFrequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology to receive your iPod's audiosignal from a distance. Setup is simple: Just plug the receiver and iCast transmitter intonearby wall outlets, run a cable between the receiver and your stereo's auxiliary or tapeinput, and place your iPod in the transmitter's docking slot. Within seconds, you'll havecomplete access to all your iPod playlists, with no long wires to unroll or programming tomaster. The receiver also makes it a breeze to control your iPod from across the room, with three buttons that correspond to the iPod's controls: a "track forward," a "trackback," and a "pause/play" button.
The real star of the iCast system, however, is the wireless FHSS technology. For years, wireless solutions have been plagued with outside interference from other productsusing the crowded 2.4 GHz band. The Soundcast engineering team, by contrast, refinedthe iCast's wireless technology to the point where neither the microwave nor thecordless phone will affect the quality of the listening experience. No buzzes, nodropouts, and no distortion--just pure, clean sound.
And users aren't restricted to playing their iPod through a single stereo system, as theiCast transmitter can operate up to two receivers at once. Want to play your favoritetunes in the living room and the bedroom at the same time? No problem. Other detailsinclude a full wireless line-of-sight range of 350 feet (150 feet through walls and doors),support for all music formats, and a sleek black housing. The iCast receiver measures 6.8by 2 by 3.5 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box iCast receiver, AC/DC adapter, 3.5 mm mini-to-mini cable, 3.5 mm mini-to-RCA cable,RCA-to-RCA cable, 3.5 mm mini gender adapter, user's manual.

I was really excited to get this product, it's our first summer with a pool and I was looking forward to spending my days outside with my music playing. Unfortunately, all I was able to listen to was static, distortion, silence, and the occasional second or two of music. We placed the base in many different locations, even tried putting the speaker outside of the pool. Nothing worked. If you were even remotely by the base, it blocked the signal and you got more static. I'm returning it tomorrow!

Altec Lansing M812 Octiv Air Wireless Speaker System with Dock for iPod (Black) Review

Altec Lansing M812 Octiv Air Wireless Speaker System with Dock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When it comes to playing your iTunes music in a room away from the computer, products tend to take two main approaches. The first approach streams music from your computer to speakers of your choice. Apple Airport Express or the Sonos System are an example. The second approach involves docking iPods directly to an integrated set of speakers. The Octiv Air essentially takes the "dock" approach, but provides an aux port, so it also supports the "computer streaming" approach when paired with the above products. Thus, the Octiv Air operates in a very impressive, unique way!
Better yet, instead of the dock being physically attached to the speaker system, the dock is separate and wirelessly streams your iPod or "computer streamer"'s sound to the speaker, which can be placed elsewhere. For me, that feature makes the system brilliant!
My wife likes to listen to her iPod in the kitchen, but the problem with other iPod docking products is that our counter space is too valuable to fit a big speaker. Now, we can set the iPod in a small, out-of-the-way dock on the kitchen counter, but stream the music to the speaker, which sits elsewhere!
Another plus is that the wireless dock supports any sound output from your iPod. This means that in addition to the music on the iPod hard drive, you can also use the Octiv Air for Pandora internet radio and any other music supported by iPod Touch/iPhone applications!
As for the sound quality, it's excellent! It's much crisper than the docking products I've used in the past, and rivals any high-end docking system I've heard.
My only complaints are trivial. First, while the product description says the wall-mounting bracket is "optional", what it SHOULD say is that it's "sold separately". Second, while the system works with iPhone 3G, docking it will result in your iPhone giving you a message saying "this accessory is not designed to work with iPhone". You can just close the warning and everything will work as normal, but be prepared for the annoyance if you want to dock your phone.
All in all, I think Altec Lansing has thrown together a FANTASTIC product, that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend if you're in the market for a high-end iPod speaker system!

Customized Stereo Sound for Each Room With the Octiv AIR, you have the choice of exactly how your music is delivered. If you want to focus your music in a large entertainment room, you can add a second speaker and choose the system's "left/right" mode, which will separate your sound into two channels, effectively doubling your power.
To truly revolutionize your sound experience, the system gives you the option of adding up to seven additional speakers throughout different rooms in your home, so you will never be away from your music. Powerful, Full-Spectrum Sound The Octiv AIR uses digital amplification to deliver crystal-clear sound up to 80 watts RMS, enough power to fill a large room with sound. The speaker also features unique bass-enhancement technology that creates deep bass without a subwoofer.
Overall sound quality is outstanding, thanks to a two-way design with dual 4-inch speakers and 1-inch tweeters that deliver clean treble and deep bass. The Octiv AIR has a system response from 42 Hz to 22 kHz.

I bought this speaker because I wanted to play music from my iPhone wirelessly while retaining high quality sound. In that respect, I am not disappointed as the sound is very rich with plenty of bass and clear mids/highs. I was concerned that the bluetooth transmission would introduce artifacts/digital distortion, but I can't hear any.
My only complaint is the iPhone pairing which can be a bit finicky, especially when you switch between different iPhones. It will either take a few seconds for the music to start or you will need to press the connect/reset buttons.

Iessentials Mp-hfm Digital Fm Transmitter With Car Charger Review

Iessentials Mp-hfm Digital Fm Transmitter With Car Charger
Average Reviews:

What I like about it:
1)Sleek design that matches exactly the style of my ipod touch
What I didn't like about it:
1)Slips out of the ipod rather easily because it lacks the little clips on the sides that some of these connectors have--very annoying.
2)The shaft of this connector that goes into the ipod wasn't long enough to connect properly after I put a rubber case protector on it. Not really the fault of this unit, but the reality is that most people will probably have a similar experience given that you buy this to use with your ipod in the car.
3)Not all channels are available, so if you find a clear channel on your car radio, it might not be available on this unit.
4)Does not scan automatically to find the next clear channel like some of the more expensive models do, so trying to get to a clear channel between this and your car stereo is at least as involved as texting while you drive. I don't recommend doing either. It's a royal pain when you're driving and you start getting interference.
To sum up, I decided to use an old cassette tape converter / connector instead. It makes a little noise due to the plastic gears spinning which is not ideal, but I usually only hear it between songs when no music is playing. (Maybe by now they've improved these and you can get one that doesn't have moving parts that make noise). That said, much better sound quality and not losing your signal and having to adjust your radio station and the station on the FM Transmitter while driving make it a much better option in my opinion.

Sony AIR-SA20PK S-AirPlay Digital Wireless Speaker System for iPod (Black) Review

Sony AIR-SA20PK S-AirPlay Digital Wireless Speaker System for iPod (Black)

I had high hopes for this product --- needed a way to put sound throughout my small house and functionality seemed great (the ability to use different modes in different rooms, ability to use remote with each of the speaker units to control the ipod, etc.) Unfortunately, it did not work as well as hoped.
The base and speakers had a hard time talking to each other, and they were only 50-60 ft apart and in a relatively unobstructed path. Had to move the base closer and align the speaker so that it was in a more direct visual view. Still, with people in the room it would fade in and out. Not sure if this is because I have wireless internet in the house, which the manual says might interfere, but who that would be looking for wireless speakers doesn't have wireless internet??
The sound quality is very good. Not quite as good as my Bose docking station, but I was pleasantly surprised. The other big downside for me with the sound, however, and the last straw that prompted me to return the product, is the volume level. The highest setting is not all that loud. Fine if you are in the same room... but sometimes I would crank up the volume on my Bose docking station and listen to the music in other rooms or outside ... can't really do this with the Sony.

The speaker set as a whole works very well once you get it up and running. The set I purchased comes with 4 speakers and one dock. I found that 2 of my speakers have white LED indicator lights while the other 2 speakers have blue LED indicator lights, which is a bit odd. In any case, I found the speakers difficult to pair, for those with trouble try these steps:
1. Have all speakers and dock near each other within arms reach.
2. Plug all speakers and dock into an outlet and turn them on, dock and speakers will blink slowly.
3. Turn the speaker volumes to medium-low, when they come out of the box they are at max volume and will make a very loud beep when it tries pairing.
Alright, this is when coordination is key:
Each speaker has a pairing button, when you hold the pairing button down for 3 seconds, the speaker will make a beeping tone once every half-second while it searches for the dock, it will attempt to pair for about 10 seconds. The dock has a pairing button on it's left side. When you hold the pairing button down for 3 seconds, the status light will blink rapidly as it searches for the speakers for 10 seconds. You can see how this requires some coordination...
4. Using one hand on a pair of speakers, press and hold the pairing button on the speakers to initiate pairing (beeping sounds start).
5. Repeat step 4 on another pair of speakers.
6. Quickly press and hold the pairing button on the dock.
7. If you are able to do this fast enough, all 4 speakers will make a long sustained tone indicating that they have been paired.
8. Dock your ipod and give it a whirl, if you find that one or more speaker(s) is not outputting sound, you did not go through the steps fast enough... Repeat steps 4-7 again but FASTER!
I found that the speakers and docks, once paired, will not lose pairing (THANK GOODNESS!) even if you unplug them for an extended period of time, although the clock on the dock will reset unless you install 2 AAA's in the dock (not included).
Sound quality wise, I tried moving the speakers around my 1 story house and found that I got clear reception everywhere I went. The speakers do not produce the best sound in the world, they definitely do not measure up to my Klipsch speakers, but they sound decent once I up the treble to 5 and the bass to 3. Also, you can leave the speakers on and turn off the dock, they will not make any static sounds like many 900Hz wireless speakers do, they go into standby instead. Turning on the dock causes the speakers to spring into action.
The remote also appears to not use IR but will work wirelessly. You do not need to point the remote at the dock for it to work. In fact, I found that I could walk clear to the other side of my house and still be able to control the dock.
I'm overall very happy with this set of speakers. Pairing was a pain, but once I got it up and running they work decently, the range and ability for the remote to work anywhere was a definite plus.
Update: Discovered that when you play soft sounding music, the speakers will go into standby within 10 seconds. When the music gets louder, the speakers re-engage. This behavior is rather annoying, I wished that they would stay engaged while the base station is on.
Update 2-10-11: Speakers are still going strong. To resolve the issue of the speakers going into standby with soft music, I turned up the volume on the base station and turned down the volume on the individual speakers (end result of keeping the same output volume). It seems the speakers need a certain threshold of input sound or else they will go into standby.
Also, I discovered that the docking station will interfere with wireless networks, which makes sense as most wireless networks and these speakers operate on the 2.4Ghz frequency. When I place the dock near a computer that is using the wireless network, the computer will completely lose its connection until the dock is turned off.
I am still happy with these speakers, they have been on for the last 2 years, never turned off. I have since moved to a larger two story home, still works like a charm.

I got this for my husband and he loves it!!! It works well with his iPhone. After reading another review (which said it eats batteries), I decided to buy rechargeable batteries. However we actually have not changed the batteries since Christmas and it is used almost every day. So we have not had a problem at all with it eating batteries.
